Following the devastating October 4th Hurricane Matthew impacts, hurricane matthew relief has begun. Many communities continue to experience flooding, landslides and other problems as a result.

The hurricane, which started as a hurricane early September, strengthened to become Category 5 hurricane by Sept. 30, and was the first Atlantic hurricane ever to make landfall after Hurricane Felix in 2007.

Many organizations launched relief efforts to assist the affected states and countries in the Caribbean. These organizations bring water, food and shelter to all those who were affected by the hurricane.

Direct Relief (a US non-profit organization) as well as Catholic Relief Services are examples of such an organization. Both organizations have dispatched emergency response teams in Haiti and coordinate aid shipments with basic medicine and relief supplies for victims.

CARE International, a US nonprofit organization, also assists with hurricane matthew relief. They are coordinating aid shipments of clean drinking water, hygiene kits, and emergency supplies such as tarps for shelter and blankets to those affected by the hurricane.

A number of North Carolina communities still have to deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, including flood damage and other issues. Lumberton was one of these communities.
